Experience the spring migration in the Danube Delta. This is the time when you can witness what bird species are arriving from Siberia and which ones are taking off to Africa.

In the spring Delta becomes a unique place in Europe, the welcoming home for so many species and nature’s greatest events. Learn from the locals about the mysterious sturgeon migration to the Black Sea. And if you are lucky to be at the right time on the river banks, immerse yourself in the swarms of ephemeral May flies. It’s a truly extraordinary phenomenon.

Best time of the year

15 March- 15 June

Location

Sfantu Gheorghe village’s surroundings, as well as the adjacent Sacalin-Zătoane protected area, are some of the wildest and most biodiverse in the Danube Delta.

Situated in the easternmost corner of the Delta, this area is in constant dynamic evolution, being formed by natural processes as we speak. The local inhabitants are the best guides in the labyrinth of swamps, channels, lakes, levies and dunes. With their help, you will have unprecedented access to the true spirit of this place.

There is no light pollution in this area of the Danube Delta, so you are sure to be treated to a spectacular night sky.

We propose another unique experience: the cooking of fish soup, among the reeds, together with local fishermen. Find out more in Activities.
